And they’re not all what you might expect.
The good folks of the Grand Comics Database have Batman‘s debut pegged at March 30, 1939. They’re not alone but it’s not entirely set in stone because of the vagaries of release dates lo, 76 years ago. No matter. Good excuse to do the 13 COVERS salute.
But how do you pick just 13 Batman covers? After a bit of thought, I decided to do this from a personal standpoint — 13 covers of books that are essential to my make-up as a Batman reader and fan. They’re not even necessarily my favorite covers, per se. Sometimes it’s a cover that is emblematic of an entire storyline or time period. And it has to be a cover that actually stars Batman. Oh, and I also have to own the issue.
This list pretty much sums up the kind of Batman fan I am. I’m certain that you will see things differently — but that’s the fun part! Feel free to add yours to the comments below, or the Facebook or Twitter thread in which you see this!
