Devilina we knew. Now we have another figure…
The news came down Thursday night that Mego would not only be releasing its first run of Marvel figures in December but is also putting out a line based on the Atlas/Seaboard comics of the 1970s.
Mego announced Devilina, and said three more are to be revealed at New York Comic Con next weekend.
But now there’s this: Diamond/Gemstone’s newsletter Scoop on Friday revealed that the Grim Ghost will be among the Megos produced:
Here’s a similar pic, published in Brian Heiler’s Super Collector Newsletter (which you should be subscribing to).
The Grim Ghost was created by writer Michael Fleisher and artist Ernie Colon, and debuted in Nov. 1974. It lasted three issues.
In his fabulous round-up, THE TOP 13 ATLAS/SEABOARD COMIC BOOK TITLES — RANKED, our pal Walt Grogan described the series this way: “18th century highwayman Matthew Dunsinane is captured and hanged for his crimes. Trapped in hell, he accepts a deal from the devil to return to the land of the living but is transported to the 20th century.”
Mego will have the four figures in the first wave on hand at the Wal-Mart booth at NYCC. (The line is a Wal-Mart exclusive.) They will be giving away 100 of each figure (100 on Thursday, 100 on Friday, 200 on Saturday).

I wonder if they will release a horse accessory for the character? Maybe retool a Planet of The Apes galloping horse?

The black horse that came as the BAF with the McFarlane Dark Knight Batman wave could work well for him…

Not to be confused with the other Grim Ghost (originally “The Gay Ghost,”) who debuted in Sensation Comics # 1, which featured Wonder Woman and also some other forgotten heroes like the swashbuckling “Black Pirate.” It was reprinted as one of those Giant Sized facsimile editions we saw through the 70s around 1973. At least one other Grim Ghost story was reprinted in (I think) World’s Finest, back when they included a reprint or two.
