Spider-Man, the Human Torch and a cast of thousands…
Y’know what I didn’t really care for as a kid? Team-up comics. Weird, right? I mean, I read them but they always felt forced.
Boy, was I stupid. Team-up comics can be fun! Just ask the Spider-Man (and Human Torch) fans who waited breathlessly in the ’70s and ’80s for every issue of Marvel Team-Up.
And now those same folks are being rewarded with the first-ever Marvel Team-Up Omnibus, coming for the holiday season.
Dig the description floating around book-distributor channels:
MARVEL TEAM-UP OMNIBUS VOL. 1 HC
By Gerry Conway, Len Wein, Ross Andru, Gil Kane, Jim Mooney
At last, the beloved Marvel Team-Up series gets the omnibus treatment, featuring the Amazing Spider-Man and a cast of colorful co-stars from across the Marvel Universe!
Get ready for all of Marvel’s most-famous characters all piled into one amazing title—Marvel Team-Up! In the world of interconnected heroes that Marvel Comics pioneered, Team-Up made that formula into a franchise and gave fans a much-desired twice-a-month Spider-Man fix. When that wasn’t enough, Marvel launched Giant-Size Spider-Man featuring double-sized extravaganzas—and it’s all collected here in the inaugural Marvel Team-Up Omnibus. Featuring stories by the same top-flight talents that brought you Amazing Spider-Man, MTU brings Spidey together with the Human Torch, the X-Men, the Vision, the Thing, Thor, the Cat, Iron Man and that’s just for starters. Team-Up will have you full-up with classic comic book adventure!
COLLLECTING: MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #1-30, DAREDEVIL (1964) #103, GIANT-SIZE SUPER-HEROES (1974) #1 and GIANT-SIZE SPIDER-MAN (1974) #1-3
On Sale Date: Dec. 9, 2025 | 840 Pages | $100.00 US

A few thoughts:
— I keep pointing out the Human Torch not just because he co-starred with Spider-Man in the first three issues, but because he was the lead in several more. Go, Johnny, go!
— Boy that’s some heavyweight talent lineup, no?
— Standard caveat: This has not been solicited by Marvel yet, so nothing’s official until it’s official. Also, when it is solicited, it will likely have at least one other cover. (Plus, this one looks like a placeholder too.)

Should have asked Jim to review this one. I’ll definitely get this. I loved the title back in the day and there were some great covers too!

A great series as I recall, pairing Spidey with such different personalities. Would I spend $100 for this collection? Not positive. The other team-up title I enjoyed more was Two-in-One. The Thing, one way or the other, was always a great partner.

Jeff, ya just gotta keep an eye on Amazon and/or eBay. I’ve never paid more than ~$60/per for an Omnibus edition. I’ve scored a few gems in the $25 to $40 range. Anything offered under $50 and I grab them up.

Wow. I remember these. Me, I always loved the team-up books. The possibilities for stories were infinite.

So much nostalgia for Marvel Team-Ups. First book I ever owned, MT 16. Introduced me to Mar-vell, Gil Kane’s art, Len Wein (and he even slips a Linda Lovelace reference in under the censor’s eyes, which of course completely escaped me as a 7 yr old)
I used to struggle a bit in my head wondering how Spider-Man had time in his life for these completely different adventures, but I came to grips with that.
These are also very special to me because they were essentially Ross Andru’s try out issues for the main Spider-Man title.

The Byrne run on MTU is classic!
Being able to see his pencils embellished by a variety of inkers is a treat.

I agree! That several issue run that John Byrne did at the time are some of my favorite issues of MTU. If I had to pick a single favorite issue out of the whole series it would have to be issue #1. Not only was it the first issue I ever saw and bought off the spinner rack (yeah, I know I’m old ), but it had two of my favorite characters in it. Spider-Man and the Human Torch. On top of that it was a Christmas comic book story which have always been some of my favorite comic books whether they were Super-Heroes, Archie, Uncle Scrooge or whatever.
