Dig This Upcoming NIGHTWING Cover Homage to DETECTIVE COMICS #38

A clever spin on an all-time classic cover…

Certain covers get homaged over and over again, and for good reason — books like Action Comics #1, Amazing Fantasy #15 and The Avengers #4 are part of the foundation of comics.

One of those books is 1940’s Detective Comics #38, featuring the first appearance of Robin:

Bob Kane pencils, Jerry Robinson inks

Well, there’s another homage coming your way in September and it’s an especially groovy one — a variant by Giuseppe Camuncoli for the special Nightwing Uncovered #1, which, fittingly, is a collection of favorite Nightwing covers. (The special is timed to the end of the much-ballyhooed Tom Taylor/Bruno Redondo run on the series.)

Dig this:

I’m impressed bu Camuncoli’s ability to mesh modern Dick with the art style of the original Kane-Robinson Boy Wonder.

  1. What DC really needs to do is publish one or two omnibuses a year that have every cover and variant (open to order as well as rare ratioed) they published the previous year (which would be a few thousand different covers)–they are leaving money on the table by not doing this.
