The master of the mood’s foray into Riverdale…
Y’know what’s an underrated artistic talent? Being able to sublimate your own distinct style to ape another, radically different style.
The late Gene Colan, for example, was one of the all-time greats — best known for moody, ethereal storytelling in comics such as The Tomb of Dracula, Daredevil and Batman. But in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Gentleman Gene plied his trade for a spell at Archie Comics, where he turned in stories that fit the classic house style.
One such rare gem — “Cement Booties,” from 1990’s Life With Archie #279 — is included in Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #323, out Sept. 15, and you can check it out in full below.
But, wait there’s more! We also have a SNEAK PEEK at the issue’s new story — “Chill Out!” — by Dan Parent, Bob Smith, Glenn Whitmore and Jack Morelli.
Dig it.
