Dig JUNE BRIGMAN’s Lovely Painting of COMET THE SUPER-HORSE

Isn’t this sweet?

As you know, I love happening upon nuggets of gold in my travels through the internet. This time I found a beautiful oil painting of Comet the Super-Horse by June Brigman of Power Pack, Brenda Starr and Mary Worth fame.

Behold:

Comet made his first appearance in 1961’s Adventure Comics #293, which featured the debut of the Legion of Super-Pets (also including Krypto, Streaky and Beppo). He’s not seen much these days, so it begged the question: Despite its sweet beauty, why Comet and why now?

The answer’s pretty simple.

“I do oil paintings of horses,” June said. “A friend I’ve done Super-Pet commissions for asked if I’d do an oil painting of Comet. So I gave it a try and he was happy with the result.”

I’m happy with it too, just as an observer.

  1. That is a beautiful painting. Thanks for sharing. Always enjoyed how Bat-crap-crazy the Comet stories were.
