Return of a landmark RPG…
I was never a role-playing game type of guy. I tried but, for whatever reason, it’s not a concept that stuck with me. On the other hand, I was absolutely obsessed with tabletop simulation baseball and football games, with which I would carry out entire seasons.
Go figure.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t recognize how important RPGs are to a very wide swath of fandom, so it’s pretty durn cool that Cryptozoic Entertainment is going to be crowdfunding the return of Mayfair Games’ DC Heroes Role-Playing Game for its 40th anniversary.
“Be Part of the Legend! To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the DC Heroes Role-Playing Game, we are bringing it to Kickstarter!” reads an email from Cryptozoic. “Become Super Heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman and create new stories where YOU take on The Joker, Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and other Super-Villains who threaten the DC Universe.
“The dozens of books will be available in definitive archival editions featuring contributions from some of DC’s finest writers and artists of the 1980s—Jack Kirby, Alan Moore, Denny O’Neil, George Perez, John Byrne, and many others,” it continues.
Here’s the Kickstarter link, which includes a button where you can be notified when the campaign launches.

I still have mine!

My box is still in the original shrink wrap. I never got around to playing the game.

I had this, Marvel Superheroes RPG, Champions, and Chaosium’s Superworld. I thought the DC Heroes RPG was probably the best of that lot for playability, though a lot of people thought Champions was top dog. Playing with a group that lived for a variant of Runequest though, switching to superhero roleplaying didn’t really turn anyone’s wheels, but this was still a good game. I hope that Cryptozoic reproduces the boxed set as it was published. It would be keen to have the actual first edition version as it was released way back when. Interestingly, there’s a Kickstarter reproducing Chaosium’s ElfQuest RPG out there too. Looking forward to that one…

I have mine still. I only bought it out of curiosity and the amazing George Perez box cover.

It’s an excellent and fun game. I played it in the 80s with a bunch of friend. I bought the box set and still use those wonderful 10 sided dice.
