CLASSIC COVERS RE-IMAGINED: A Nice Slice of TIGRA vs. KRAVEN

SUNDAY FUNNIES WITH KERRY CALLEN!

By KERRY CALLEN

In the years 2009 to 2012, there existed an active website called Covered: Artists Re-Interpreting Comic Covers. It contained a lot of fantastic work by a wide variety of artists. It also contained some of my work.

At the time, I had gotten out of the habit of drawing and decided to start again. I contributed eight reimagined covers. In many ways, it’s where I developed my own current “superhero art” style. I thought it would be fun to share them here at 13th Dimension!

I’ve long been a Tigra fan AND a Kraven fan, so I wanted to do something interesting with 1976’s Marvel Chillers #4. It’s a great pair-up of hero and villain, with art by Rich Buckler and Tom Palmer, with alterations by John Romita.

I got a little odd with this one. It’s what my brain came up with, so I just went with it. It shows you just how incredibly sharp Tigra’s claws and Kraven’s blade are…

By the way, I know current versions of Tigra keep adding more clothes to her. I think she’s a cooler visual when you can see all her stripes. Plus, logically, isn’t she already mostly covered with hair?
