COMING IN AUGUST: Jorge Jimenez, Lee Bermejo and others bring you dual homages… DC released its solicitations Friday and listed are five covers marked “Batman 85th Anniversary” variants. The gimmick? The covers homage classic Batman covers of the past — but instead use screen versions of the Dark Knight. For example, dig Jorge Jimenez’s intense take on Norm Breyfogle’s classic Detective Comics #587 — only with Michael Keaton in the lightning-lit alleyway: There’s also David Mazzuchelli’s Batman: Year One reimagined by Lee Bermejo, starring Robert Pattinson (fitting since Battinson’s outfit so clearly echoes Bermejo’s own version)… … as well as Gabriele Dell’Otto’s version of Jim Lee’s Hush Batman, with Ben Affleck chilling with a gargoyle… … and Simone DiMeo’s salute to Batman: The Animated Series a la Neal Adams and Bernie Wrightson’s Batman #241: And get this: There’s one more to come — by Chris Samnee for Detective Comics #1088 (Aug. 28).
