CAPTAIN KIRK Asks the Galaxy’s Most Obvious Question

STAR TREK: A SUNDAY FUNNIES WITH KERRY CALLEN anniversary gag!

To some, Let That Be Your Last Battlefield — featuring the black-and-white men of Cheron, played by Frank Gorshin and Lou Antonio — is a Star Trek classic. (It’s the series’ 58th anniversary today.)

To others, it’s overwrought and painfully obvious.

To Captain Kirk, it begged a very simple question:

“I’ve long wondered what was on planet Cheron,” Kerry sez. “I finally decided to draw a cartoon about it!”

  2. The Narcissism of Small Difference (as coined by Sigmund Freud).

Cf. Christopher Hitchens: “In numerous cases of apparently ethno-nationalist conflict, the deepest hatreds are manifested between people who—to most outward appearances—exhibit very few significant distinctions.”

Although I do think the Trek episode in question–“Let That Be Your Last Battlefield”–is guilty of a balance fallacy or false equivalency in the tensions between Loki and Bele and their small differences (but I’ll leave it here as I always go on for too long).
