BONK! Let’s Celebrate BOXING DAY — the Best Holiday for Comics Fans

FRANCO’S FRIDAY FREE-FOR-ALL!

By FRANCO

I wanted to talk about a little known holiday that directly concerns all of us comic-book reading folks! BOXING DAY!

Oh, what a wonderful day! When we can revel in comic books’ most awesome aspect — one fictional character punching another fictional character in the face! So let’s get right into it and talk about the best fight in comic books! In no particular order off the top of my head:

That issue of Justice League — #5, from 1987 — when Batman takes Guy Gardner out with one punch! ONE PUNCH! Oh, what a day!  That was awesome!

Any issue with the Thing vs. the Hulk!  You don’t get any more smashing than that!

OH! That issue where Muhammad Ali goes up against Superman!  That was a literal BOXING match — I know cause it’s on the actual cover!

Any issue where Green Lantern and Green Arrow are together because either one of them at any time could conjure/use a boxing glove thing and it would count because BOXING DAY!

Anything with Daredevil and his boxing dad, Battling Jack Murdock…

Or Wildcat, who is Ted Grant, a professional boxer…

Hang on, I’ve just been handed this note from (our esteemed leader here at 13th Dimension) Dan…

What? That’s not what Boxing Day is about?

Really?

Next you’re going to tell me it’s a day you box up presents. That’s dumb. It’s the day AFTER Christmas. Why would you box up the presents then? Isn’t that missing the whole point of doing it before you give the presents ON Christmas?

What do you mean there’s no boxing on Boxing Day? What kind of sport is prevalent on Boxing Day?

FOX HUNTING!!!??

That’s ridiculous

Fine.

Here’s a picture of Starfox.

  1. Boxing Day is the day you break down all of the boxes from Christmas gifts.
