MORRISON MONDAYS!
By BILL MORRISON
During Bongo’s first year, Steve and Cindy Vance wrote an epic story titled “When Bongos Collide” that began in Itchy & Scratchy Comics #3, continued in Simpsons Comics #5, and concluded in Bartman #3. That tale featured a nuclear accident that gave pretty much everyone in Springfield super powers (naturally!) We had Homer as The Inedible Bulk, Apu as Captain Kwik, Edna Krabappel as Vampiredna, Marge as The Entangler, Lisa as The Dazzler, Barney as Black Belch, etc., etc.
Flash forward to 2007 when Radioactive Man scribe Batton Lash decided to resurrect the heroes from that story under the name “The Springfield Super Squadron!” Bat teamed up the SSS with Radioactive Man and The Superior Squad, but for my cover to the issue I couldn’t resist doing a fake-out that showed the two teams on the verge of an epic battle. And never being one to pass up an opportunity for an homage, I looked at a handful of classic “heroes-fighting-heroes” covers and settled on Gil Kane and John Romita Sr.’s beautifully designed and drawn Avengers # 141, from 1975!

Eisner winner Bill Morrison has been working in comics and publishing since 1993 when he co-founded Bongo Entertainment with Matt Groening, Cindy Vance and Steve Vance. At Bongo, and later as Executive Editor of Mad Magazine, he parodied the comics images he loved as a kid every chance he got. Not much has changed.
Bill is on Instagram (@atomicbattery) and Facebook (Bill Morrison/Atomic Battery Studios), and regularly takes commissions and sells published art through 4C Comics.
