BETTY #8 Is Next in Line for an ARCHIE COMICS FACSIMILE EDITION

EXCLUSIVE! A helping of Thanksgiving cheesecake…

Archie Comics keeps racking up the Facsimile Editions, with November promising another eyeful for long-time collectors.

On tap is 1993’s Betty #8, with a memorable cover by Dan DeCarlo and Alison Flood.

“When we announced the Facsimile Edition for September, Veronica #28, I’d mentioned that the original comic commands a crazy high price when it’s found in good condition,” said Archie Comics Editor-in-Chief Mike Pellerito. “It’s always a surprise to me when we get a copy at my own comic shop. Well, Betty #8 is another one of those, and I heard the Betty fans wanted to be represented, too!

“They’re two spectacular covers by Dan DeCarlo and Alison Flood from the same era, and since our comics are always heavily read, it is harder to find perfect copies today. And as an extra treat, Betty #8 is packed with stories written by the legendary Bob Bolling, one of the best cartoonists ever, period, from any publisher.”

Dig the solicitation info, which will be released officially by Archie later in August:

A few thoughts:

— That there is the Veronica #28 that Mike mentions, in case you didn’t remember. And his shop is Aw Yeah Comics in Harrison, N.Y. It’s my shop too!

— The tally so far: 1968’s hilarious double-entendre Betty and Me #16 for August; 1993’s Veronica #28 for September; the 1961 Halloween-themed Archie’s Pal Jughead #78 for October. And now back to Betty. You just know that December will be a Christmas ish — but I wonder which one…

Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, VF copy of an original Betty #8 recently sold on eBay for $86.55. (For further comparison, a VF/NM Veronica #28 sold for $199. Does that mean Veronica is more popular?)

  1. I’m guessing they aren’t gonna give us any classics from the earlier eras. Too bad…

    • There should be an announcement on that sometime soon…

  2. Unless I’m mistaken, all of these facsimiles from Archie have one thing in common: illustrations of scantily clad women. It seems like a desperate cry for sales.

    • You are mistaken. As the story notes, Jughead is coming in October. December will almost certainly be a Christmas issue. It’s a mix.

  3. Let’s see… An innocent joke that the fanboys made “dirty”, a bikini-clad Veronica making Archie’s tongue hang out, and a scantily clad Betty seen from an “interesting” angle. We’ll probably get Cheryl Blossom next. Not the milestone first appearance in the incredibly expensive issue of “Betty and Veronica”, but some “sexy mama” cover of her own title. I must admit, this seems like the most salacious approach to facsimile editions I’ve ever seen. It’s nice to have facsimile editions, but c’mon, Archie Comics, you used to be better than that!
