BATMAN REALLY BEGINS: Dig This DETECTIVE COMICS #27 Facsimile Edition ‘Movie Homage’ Cover

EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: It’s Golden Age-size, stars Christian Bale in his original Batsuit, and will be available at SDCC…

We noted last week that a Detective Comics #27 Facsimile Edition — at full, Golden Age size and with a “movie homage” variant cover — would be available as an exclusive at DC’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con.

Now, we have an EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK for you:

Here’s a closer look:

A few thoughts:

— The cover is by Dan Mora, the star artist of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest and, until recently, Shazam!

— DC has tabbed other movie homage covers for Batman’s 85th anniversary, and the first wave is due in August.

— But this is the first time they’ve done it with a Facsimile Edition, and picking Christian Bale’s version of the character is right on the money: That’s his Batman Begins suit. What could be more fitting?

— This is also a treat for Facsimile collectors who complain that such mags are typically published in current dimensions (6-5/8″ x 10-3/16″). Golden Agers are larger, at 7-3/4” x 10-1/2”. Of course, the pedantic among us will point out that this isn’t a true Facsimile Edition because it doesn’t boast the original cover. Oh, so what!

— Prices for the DC SDCC exclusives have not been announced yet. Keep coming back to 13th Dimension for updates! (The con runs July 25-28.)
