BATMAN #251: NEAL ADAMS’ Classic Cover Is Crafted Into a High-End Statue

Leaping from 1973 to 2026…

DC Comics this week promoted a pewter statue that depicts Neal Adams’ classic cover for 1973’s Batman #251.

I guess this has been hiding at DC’s website for some time but this is certainly the first time I’ve seen it.

Dig the official description, along with a gallery of images:

BATMAN Limited Edition Gilt The Joker Batman Volume 1 #251 Statue

A limited edition of 200 individually numbered pieces worldwide.

As the Joker wages a campaign of retribution on the traitorous cabal responsible for his capture, Batman falls into the unhinged villain’s clutches. How will Batman get out of this one? Will the Joker prevail?

Illustrator Alan Quah and sculptor Mufizal Mokhtar’s impactful interpretation sees a menacing pewter Joker looming out of Neal Adams’ dramatic 1973 cover art, with Batman seemingly helpless.

Malaysians Quah and Mufizal, both highly respected by the international comics and collectibles communities, collaborated on this limited edition.

A few thoughts:

— The statue stands 22 cm tall, including base, x 17.5 cm x 20 cm. That’s about 8 2/3 inches tall.

— It’s produced by Malaysia’s Royal Selangor and lists for $660.

— It’s not the only statue of this particular cover.

— I suppose you could say this depicts Adams’ cover one second later. It never occurred to me that Gigantic Joker would jump onto Park Avenue like that.

  1. Was just thinking about this one today. Would love to know how Denny O’Neill came up with names like Bigger Melvin and Bing Hooley
