A wonderful beaut…
Last week’s announcement that New History of the DC Universe — by Mark Waid and a cast of artists including Jerry Ordway — would kick off in June was big news.
Getting about as much attention as the series itself, however, was Book One’s variants, by artists like Dan Mora, Ryan Sook, Michael Cho and Scott Koblish. You can check them out here, but the only one not released at the time was Stanley “Artgerm” Lau’s cover.
He posted it online over the weekend, so dig this:
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems reminiscent of the classic Wonder Woman hardcover collection first published in 1972 by Bonanza…
… which has been homaged before:

Drew Johnson/Romulo Fajardo Jr. variant
Either way, it’s another terrific addition to a growing gallery of these variants. Can’t wait to see what’s on tap for Book Two.

With this and Dan Mora’s cover, does this mean that DC is going to establish that Wonder Woman came to Man’s World in the 40s again? They were going to before, but then it just fell by the wayside.

Wasn’t it eventually established that it was her mother, Hippolyta, who was the Wonder Woman of the 1940s?

No, that was back in the 90’s during the John Byrne run. Since then they’ve retconned her “herstory” with New 52, Rebirth, and then they were trying to re-establish Diana’s intro in the 40’s as part of the failed Generation 5/5G, with a story in WW #750. They never followed up on that, but with this new DC History book, they may reset it again.

I loved Byrne’s idea of making Hippolyta the “Golden Age” WW.

Artgerm giving us the Golden Age Wonder Woman is a nice twist! I like it!

How long do you think it will be until this is no longwr valid?

Would love to see ALL of the Golden Age All Star Squadron people again… Great memories!

It will probably last for a couple years, until the next “refresh.” It would be nice if they made it Hippolyta again, since she has been gone awhile, this would be a nostalgic and honorable way to bring her back without bringing her back to life.
