The Superman/Spider-Man plot thickens…

The company crossover hits just keep on comin’!
Marvel on Thursday quietly revealed that Amalgam Comics’ Spider-Boy Team-Up #1 — 1997’s mash-up of the publisher’s Spider-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy and DC’s Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes — will be released as a Facsimile Edition on Jan. 7, 2026.
It’s the second Marvel/DC Facsimile Edition, following October’s Amalgam Comics Spider-Boy #1 — and perhaps a harbinger of greater things.
There was no solicitation info per se, but the title was tucked away in a list of upcoming releases.

A few thoughts:

— All this does is lend more credence to the idea that Marvel and DC will re-release 1976’s epic Superman vs. Spider-Man as a Facsimile Edition treasury in January. Here’s why.
— We noted Tuesday that Marvel has two Facsimiles coming in December. Click here for the lowdown. Spider-Boy Team-Up #1 — by Roger Stern, Karl Kesel, Jose Ladronn and Juan Vlasco — is the third we hinted at in that piece.
— Deadpool/Batman #1 is out this week. Just a reminder.

Well, that’s good, and an opportunity to find an Amalgam book outside of a dollar bin. (I’m also kicking myself for not ordering the Amaglam omnibus last year. Between the two, the DC/Marvel Omnibus seemed like the saner purchase.)
Still wondering what the year-long facsimile run of 2026 will be, if any.
Still annoyed that Uncanny X-Men #143 wasn’t solicited as a December facsimile. 🙂

I’m not sure how, but I’m pretty confident that the selection of Spider-Boy is some kind of legal appeasement to DC, for recently introducing a Marvel-exclusive new “Spider-Boy” despite DC sharing the rights to *this* version. I wouldn’t be surprised if DC’s co-ownership of the trademark to the name “Spider-Boy” had expired, but there could be some legal entanglements from what were surely complicated contracts from the Amalgam efforts that left Marvel having to agree to something like this that re-establishes DC’s corporate interests in the trademark. Quite possibly DC wants to ensure they get a tiny piece of the pie from Marvel’s future usage of the name in relation to their new character.

I don’t know how many people caught this, but in the first issue of Dan Slott’s most recent Spider-Man series, there’s a wink nod that Amalgam Spider-Boy was murdered by the Inheritors.
