BATMAN & ROBIN: YEAR ONE #1 is out — so we check in on artist Chris Samnee’s eighth straight #BATOBER…
For the eighth consecutive year, superstar artist Chris Samnee is posting online a new Batman black-and-white sketch every day for the month of October —he calls it #Batober — and for the eighth consecutive year, we’re highlighting 13 of his grooviest illustrations.
What makes this year special is that the ballyhooed Batman & Robin: Year One #1, by Samnee and Mark Waid, is out now. Finally, we get to see Samnee on sequential Batman art. Not just that, there will be a “Noir” version of Issue #1 in November, which is quite fitting given the artist’s #Batober tradition.
Anyway, each day this month, he takes a single word — in the same vein as other “x-tober” sketch challenges you see out there — spins a fitting image, and puts it online.
This is something I take great joy in doing every Halloween season and it’s especially meaningful this time around since I’ve used this particular feature to stump for a series just like Batman & Robin: Year One.
So here’s Chris’ prompt list — and 13 MAGNIFICENT SKETCHES. Best part? We’re only halfway through the month, so there’s a lot more to come in #Batober.

Oh wow! It took me a moment to notice Batman in “Conceal” and “Chance.” Wonderful artwork!
