The unheralded Golden Age artist was born 113 years ago…
I really enjoy shining a spotlight on artists whose work is often taken for granted. Sure, we all appreciate the crude, yet foundational work of Joe Shuster and the stars that followed on Superman, like Wayne Boring and Curt Swan.
But don’t forget the Jack Burnleys of the world. The late Burnley, who was born 113 years ago on Jan. 11, 1911, was one of the earliest artists to illustrate the Man of Steel, the co-creator of Starman and a DC stalwart in the Golden Age. So, for the first time, we’re giving him a 13 COVERS birthday tribute — all Action Comics — because he most certainly deserves it.
Enjoy.

I’m glad to see the Jack Burnley tribute. Even though I’ve never seen it “in person” Action 61 is one of my favorite Superman covers. Even though Burnley wasn’t the colorist, the coloring really pops on it.
Burnley drew some great Batman covers as well.
