A Golden Age BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION…
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, is one of my fave comics right now and a lot of it has to do with the great relationship between Batman, Robin and Superman.
So I suppose it only made sense that for this year’s Win Mortimer 13 COVERS birthday salute — the late artist was born 104 years ago on May 1, 1919 — we’d go with his famed World’s Finest covers from the ’40s and ’50s.
These are some of the most whimsical covers of the Golden Age and good for 13 big smiles.
Enjoy.

Mortimer has always been my favorite of the unsung Golden Age cover artists. Love it.

Mortimer has always been one of my favorites as well. I wish I had a set of kites like those shown above on WF #46!

That last cover reminds me of DC’s letterhead in the early 80’s… on the back, there was a reverse image of all of the heroes standing on each other’s shoulders, right down the center of the paper. At the top, Robin is holding something that’s not there. On the front, the DC Bullet logo is at the top center. If you held it up to the light, you could see both images together, with all the heroes holding up the DC logo.

Mortimer was a very good artist. Like his style.
Is that supposed to be Lois Lane and Vicki Vale on the cover of WORLD’S FINEST COMICS #48?
