13 COVERS: The MARVEL World of BERNIE WRIGHTSON

A BIRTHDAY SALUTE: The late master of the macabre was born 76 years ago, on Oct. 27, 1948…

When you think of Bernie Wrightson’s work for the Big Two comics companies, your mind immediately goes to DC, which makes sense given how much he did for the publisher. Nevertheless, he had a healthy, if intermittent, run with Marvel, for decades.

So dig these 13 COVERS. (I left out obvious ones like Spider-Man: Hooky and Hulk/Thing: The Big Change and went for deeper cuts.)

Far out.

  1. I remember the year Berni passed… maybe even the same week… I got a STEAL on copies of his original Marvel graphic novels, “Amazing Spider-Man: Hooky”, and “Thing and Hulk”. I finally read “Hooky” a month or two ago; the story… eh, it’s alright. Had a good lesson about growing up in it. But Berni’s artwork? With all of those crazy creature designs? WONDERFUL!
