13 COVERS: An ERNIE CHAN Birthday Celebration

One of DC’s go-to cover artists in the Bronze Age would have been 78…

Ernie Chan is one of those artists I’ll always associate with being a Batman fan in the ’70s and I dedicated our 13 COVERS birthday salutes the last two years to his work on the Caped Crusader.

This year? It’s all about Justice League of America — and some of my all-time fave JLA covers.

Chan — also known as Ernie Chua — was born July 27, 1940, and died in 2012.

His art lives on.

Dig it.

  1. As a kid I really disliked Ernie Chan’s work– I would be so disappointed when a book had a great cover but then he was doing the art. As an adult I really appreciate things about his work I didn’t see then.
    Great tribute!

  2. Justice League of America #133 was the first comic I bought with my own money. It has a very special place in my heart. Love that black cover. Every time I look at that comic it takes me back to my childhood.
