A fan fave turns 58!
One of the most popular Batman artists of the last 30 years or thereabouts is, without a doubt, Norm Breyfogle, who was born Feb. 27, 1960.
Though Breyfogle’s Bat-images graced both Batman and Detective in the late ’80s and early ’90s, this year our 13 COVERS salute is picked strictly from the Dark Knight’s self-named title.
Just because.
By the way, Norm was one of the first people I interviewed for 13th Dimension and you can click here to check that out.
Now on to the covers!

One of the best. So glad I was “there” in the moment during his run. It was fantastic. A breath of fresh air.

He has such a distinct style. It really grabs you.

For a guy known for drawing Batman, Norm seemed to go out of his way to NOT draw Batman’s face! Eight of those 13 covers obscure his face and two have him upside down! (Or maybe that’s Dan’s subconscious preference?)
Either way he had a heck of a run. I was there for it. Happy birthday, Mr. Breyfogle. 😉

I noticed that too! He often used Batman as a motif, with other characters taking center stage.

Breyfogle’s art is something else, man. DC#456, where Tim first puts on a robin-suit is one of y all time faves. The art from that arc is literally etched into my brain.
