The co-creator of the superhero was born 106 years ago…
You hear the name Jerry Siegel and you instantly think of Superman — as well you should. The world’s first — and most iconic — superhero was created by Siegel and his artist buddy Joe Shuster. But you knew that.
You’re also likely to think of Siegel — born Oct. 17, 1914 — as a symbol of the Golden Age, which of course is also true. But a lot of fans — especially those not up on their Superhistory — forget that Siegel also contributed a lot to the richness of the Man of Steel in the Silver Age.
For example, he was a regular writer on Adventure Comics in the late ’50s and early ’60s, chronicling the exploits of Superboy (another Siegel and Shuster creation), the Legion of Super-Heroes, as well as the Tales of the Bizarro World.
With that in mind, here are 13 COVERS featuring Siegel Adventure cover stories — including the classic tale of why Luthor hates Superman (and Superboy) so much.
