STAR WARRING Through The Years, by WARD SUTTON

The Force is strong with this one.

Ward Sutton gets it. The satirical cartoonist and illustrator has a knack for understanding the nexus of popular culture and popular thought. His Batman: Black and White cover that was shown off in Chip Kidd’s recent exhibition at Manhattan’s Society of Illustrators was my favorite of the show — and that’s saying something when you consider that there were contributions from Neal Adams, Mike Allred, Art Spiegelman and dozens of other magnificent artists. Now, he’s back with this hilarious take on Star Wars — or more specifically, fans’ sometimes-fraught relationship with the franchise and their love-hate relationship with George Lucas (which goes both ways). This was published in the Boston Globe this week, and Ward graciously let us reprint it here:
