ROY THOMAS Pays Tribute to Marvel’s MARTIN GOODMAN

SNEAK PEEK: This June’s Alter Ego #165 centers on the House of Ideas’ publisher…

I’m a sucker for just about anything TwoMorrows puts out, but I’m especially a sucker for any time their mags take up a singular focus.

In this case, it’s Roy Thomas’ Alter Ego #165, which in June will put a spotlight on Marvel publisher Martin Goodman — and includes Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Joe Simon, Steve Ditko, John Romita and many of the other architects who built the House of Ideas.

Dig this official description:

July 2020 – 84 pages (FULL COLOR)

Alter Ego #165 (84 color pages) showcases Martin Goodman, original publisher of Timely/Atlas/Marvel Comics, 1939-1971 — with coverage by comics historian Will Murray. With art and artifacts by the likes of Lee, Kirby, Ditko, Romita, Maneely, Buscema, Everett, Burgos, Gustavson, Schomburg, Colan, Adams, Steranko, and many others! Plus FCA (Fawcett Collectors of America), Michael T. Gilbert in Mr. Monster’s Comic Crypt, with still more on Pete Morisi, John Broome, and plenty of other stuff! Cover painting by Drew Friedman! Edited by Roy Thomas.

A couple thoughts:

— I look forward to this one. Typically, coverage of Marvel history focuses on the creative end of things, and rightly so. But someone had to sign the checks, give approvals — and even come up with ideas.

— The issue ships June 17, give or take a week or so. You’ll be able to get it at your local comics shop, but you can also pre-order it directly from TwoMorrows. (Click here.)
