Spinning out of Spider-Verse, we have Marvel’s latest hero, Silk. Marc Buxton reviews the first issue.

For those not in the know, Silk is Cindy Moon, a woman who was bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, granting her very similar powers. Silk was then imprisoned in a bunker for a decade by those responsible for the events in Spider-Verse. Now she is free and trying to find a life for herself. That’s the back story. Now, here’s what you really need to know: If you like Batgirl or Ms. Marvel, you really will enjoy this title. Writer Robbie Thompson’s (Supernatural) voice for Cindy Moon is on the nose. Thompson delves deep into the character’s psyche and establishes her as a realistic human being, foibles and all. It’s great to watch Cindy navigate her way through a new job working for J. Jonah Jameson while learning about her past family life — and watching her develop into a crime fighter, all with Peter Parker on the periphery serving as a guide. The issue read like a very good pilot episode for a new TV series. Stacey Lee’s anime-influenced style takes a few pages to get used to but really works for a title like this. With Secret Wars and a whole slew of new Marvel titles coming, let’s hope that Silk doesn’t get lost in the noise because this will be a fun book to watch develop.
