Ravencroft #1 cover by Gabriele Dell’Otto

Marvel’s own asylum of venal villainy takes center stage in January with Ruins of Ravencroft — a selection of one-shots that will lead into a five-issue Ravencroft miniseries emerging from the Absolute Carnage event. Click here to read all about it.

Not just that though: The House of (Insane) Ideas is also taking the opportunity to spotlight the publisher’s maddest and baddest with a series of True Believers dollar reprints and a Marvel Tales anthology edition.

Check out the solitication info for Marvel Tales: Ravencroft — which will be officially released next week — as well as a look at the classic issues that will be re-released. (Perhaps giving some clues as to what the Ravencroft series, by writer Frank Tieri, portends.)

Things take a dark turn as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the House of Ideas with the era-spanning Marvel Tales! This anthology series shines a spotlight on fan-favorite characters, features timeless stories and highlights some of our most impressive talent from the past eight decades. This time, we’re focusing on the Ravencroft Asylum for the Criminally Insane — and some of its deadliest inmates! First, Spidey legends J.M. DeMatteis and Sal Buscema introduce Ravencroft founder Dr. Ashley Kafka in the psychological Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #178! The asylum’s most famous resident, Cletus “Carnage” Kasady, wreaks havoc in Spider-Man Unlimited (1993) #1 — the first chapter of the epic Maximum Carnage! And modern masters Dan Slott and Stuart Immonen take things to a whole new level of crazy in Amazing Spider-Man (2015) #798 — where Norman Osborne plus the Carnage symbiote equals… the Red Goblin!
