LAST WEEK’S COMICS TODAY With Christy Blanch

Hello, Comic Peeps!

By CHRISTY BLANCH

I know it may be a tough week to read comics with the release of John Wick 2 (which is AMAZING!!!!!) and Lego Batman (which I am seeing this weekend!) but we must persevere!

It’s really not that tough of a job (even though John Wick 1 is on in the background as I write this). It was a great week for comics so if you haven’t visited your local shop, please do!

First off is Action Lab’s Athena Voltaire and the Volcano Goddess trade paperback from Steve Bryant. He is one of my favorite creators and if you like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, you should love this series. I read it issue to issue but still read the trade when it came out. This is simply a really fun book and I just love that it exists!

Next, All-Star Batman #7 from DC, Scott Snyder, and Tula Lotay. This issue has Poison Ivy, whom I have always loved but have really loved since Amy Chu wrote her in her own series. This book has been a really fun ride and I have thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as Tom King’s run on Batman. I mean, seriously, is there ever a thing as too much Batman?

Finally, Titan’s Sherlock: A Study in Pink trade is great! I can’t get enough of the series on television and this adaptation from Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and Jay. is just what the doctor ordered! Who can get enough of Martin Freeman!?! I suspect no one.

Lightning Round goes to Marvel’s Kingpin #1 from Matthew Rosenberg and Ben Torres. This felt very much like watching an episode of Netflix’s Daredevil. I didn’t think I would enjoy this nearly as much as I did. Check it out. … Marvel’s Deadpool the Duck #3: While I didn’t think I would enjoy this book, I totally love it. Read it before it gets too far along! … And Marvel’s Black Widow #11 from Chris Samnee and Mark Waid is just awesome. I am really looking forward to the last issue of this series. At least I think I am. I am looking forward to it and I will miss it. Samnee is just incredible.

Okay, well, John Wick is still on so I have to go. If you get a chance, go see John Wick 2 in the theater. It won’t be wasted money. It’s simply amazing. I’m really looking forward to the Dynamite series, even though I wish I was writing it. I mean, I do write episodes of it in my head every night!

Until next week, comic lovers, keep reading comics! Let your local shop know that you love them!

Toodle-Pip!
