JIM STARLIN’S MARVEL COSMIC ARTIFACT EDITION Coming Next Year

EXCLUSIVE! A gorgeous collection of art is headed to a galaxy near you.

It’s pretty remarkable that Jim Starlin’s work has never been collected in one of IDW’s spectacular, oversized Artist’s Editions.

That’s about to change.

Jim Starlin’s Marvel Cosmic Artifact Edition is scheduled for an April release — just a couple of weeks before Infinity War hits theaters. Makes sense when you consider just how much of Starlin’s material forms the foundation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What can you expect? Well, for starters, check out this cover:

Here’s the official description:

Jim Starlin was one of the driving creative forces at Marvel Comics in the 1970s and ‘80s. His turns on Warlock, Captain Marvel, and others have laid the groundwork for much of the Marvel Universe for decades. This Artifact Edition will include beautiful pages that have been scanned from the original art, including many rare and historical examples. This is definitely a book any Jim Starlin fan will want in their library.

The difference between an Artist’s Edition and an Artifact Edition comes down to story: An Artist’s Edition is geared toward reprinting entire issues or stories. An Artifact Edition typically is more of a survey of an artist’s work on various projects. Both feature the same high-end scanning from original pages.

IDW hasn’t yet released a full list of issues this edition will pull from, but the book will feature the first appearances of Thanos and Drax the Destroyer, both created by Starlin.

The 144-page, 12 x 17 hardcover will list for $125 and has an expected in-store date of 4/23/18. It’s being advance-solicited so check with your comics shop about when you can pre-order.
