Muscular art and then some…
I first encountered Bart Sears’ art in Justice League Europe back in the late ’80s. His style was big and bold — and remains so today.
In fact, there are no less than two recent books showcasing his art: Black Book: The Art of Bart Sears and Bart Sears’ Drawing Powerful Heroes! Brutes and Babes Vol. 1.
The books are from Ominous Press, an upstate New York-based publisher that showcases, among others, the talents of Sears, writer Ron Marz and artist Andy Smith. (The company’s next big project — Demi-God — will be co-published by IDW later this month.)
As their names would imply, Black Book is a collection of Sears’ bombastic illustrations from across multiple platforms, including comics and video games, while Drawing Powerful Heroes! provides in-depth tutorials that had their genesis in the defunct Wizard magazine.
