HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Captain Action Classic Collection, IDW. Finally, a hardcover that collects the complete, short-lived, cult-fave series from the late ’60s, featuring such talents as Gil Kane, Wally Wood, Jim Shooter and Irv Novick. Includes a whole bunch of groovy extras, as well as faux period ads. Oh, and DO NOT miss our CAPTAIN ACTION WEEK, featuring issue-by-issue commentary by Mark Waid, Michael Eury, Paul Kupperberg, Jim Beard and Captain Action Enterprises’ Ed Catto! (Click here. It’s far out!)

Luke Cage Omnibus, Marvel. A big ol’ helping of OG Power Man! Collects Hero for Hire #1-16, Power Man #17-47 and Annual #1.

Moon Knight Facsimile Edition #1, Marvel. Just what the title says.

Action Comics 2022 Annual #1, DC. Oh boy, look at Steve Rude’s version of Action Comics #1. That’s a piece of art for seven clams.

Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics Digest #304, Archie. It’s the unofficial start of summer. Everybody surf!

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

The Death and Return of Superman Omnibus. This is tempting, just to have the entire event under one cover. It’s such a specifically ’90s moment in comics.

Marvel June 1962 Omnibus, Marvel. This is an intriguing concept: all the books Marvel published in June 1962. I had no idea it was such a landmark month – first appearance of Spidey, first appearance of Thor, first appearance of Ant-Man. In my mind it all rolled out over time, but apparently not.

Dan adds: There’s also this nifty variant featuring art from Steve Ditko’s rejected Amazing Fantasy #15 cover:

Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #23, Marvel. I’m giving this a recommendation purely on the story’s title: “A CLEAR AND PRESENT DENGAR.”

Author: Dan Greenfield

  1. That June 1962 Omnibus is highly tempting. If I wasn’t currently unemployed, I’d buy that in a heartbeat.
