HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

The Joker 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1, DC. The anthology one-shot celebrates eight decades of the Clown Prince of Crime. I’ll be picking up Jim Lee’s ’70s homage cover. Oh, and click here for an EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW of Denny O’Neil and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez’s story in the issue.

DC Classics: The Batman Adventures #1, DC. DC barely announced this line of $1.99 reprints, with this title released to coincide with the print debut of Batman: The Adventures Continue #1 (see below). DC just last week cancelled a load of Facsimile Editions, Dollar Comics and DC Classics and it’s hard to say whether they’ll come back. But if you want your vote heard, pay the two bucks for this one.

Scott Tipton, contributor-at-large, 13th Dimension

Lady Killer: Library Edition, Dark Horse. Any chance I get, I try to recommend this amazing book by Joelle Jones and Jamie S. Rich. Stylish retro crime noir.

Batman: The Adventures Continue #1, DC Comics. Probably my most anticipated new series of the year, with Alan Burnett, Paul Dini and Ty Templeton telling brand-new stories in the universe of the classic Batman: The Animated Series.

The Super Friends: Saturday Morning Comics, Vol. 1 HC, DC. The original Super Friends tie-in comics from the 1970s, collected in a fat hardcover! The stories by E. Nelson Bridwell are a little simplistic, but the art by the legendary Ramona Fradon is beautiful and worth the price of admission.

(Dan adds: The hardcover includes not just Super Friends #1-26 but also the Super Friends features from Limited Collectors’ Edition #C-41 and #C-46, and the ultra-rare Aquateers Meet the Super Friends #1. That’s enough to put it over the top for me. Plus, click here to check out The World’s Greatest Super Friends Podcast.)

Parker: The Martini Edition, Vol. 1, IDW Publishing. Darwyn Cooke’s adaptations of Richard Stark’s Parker crime novels are modern classics, and this oversized collection of the first two – along with two short stories, interviews, and dozens of additional Cooke illustrations – belongs in everyone’s library.

  1. I’ll be getting multiple copies of the Adventure Continues and the BTAS #1 reprint for my personal spinner rack.

  2. I don’t get why there are 7 other villains on the cover of the 80th Anniversary issue of the Joker. If it’s HIS anniversary then all of the stories and images should JUST be of him.
