HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to…

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Batman #67, DC. Tom King’s had a superb cast of artistic collaborators since the beginning of his run, but it always feels extra special when Lee Weeks shows up. (Plus, rising Bat-star Jorge Fornes is also on hand!) Really looking forward to this one…

Spider-Man: Life Story #1, Marvel. One of the most intriguing series to come out so far this year, Chip Zdarsky and Mark Bagley re-imagine Spidey’s history as if Peter Parker aged in real time. First up, Spider-Man confronts the turmoil of the ’60s. Groovy.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: City at War #1, Marvel. The blockbuster video game gets a six-issue comics adaptation by Dennis Hopeless and Michele Bandini. There’s also new material and extras!

RetroFan #4, TwoMorrows. Another heaping helping of retro cool that takes you beyond comics. (Click here for an EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT featuring the origin of TV’s Shazam!)

Justice League #20, DC. The Leaguers battle their future selves – and only Mr. Mxyzptlk seems happy about it. By Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez and co.

The Immortal Hulk #15, Marvel. Doc Samson is back – and the Hulk gets on the couch. How meta. Courtesy of Al Ewing, Joe Bennett and crew.

Scott Tipton, co-owner, Blastoff Comics, North Hollywood, Calif.

Disney Masters Vol. 7: Mickey Mouse — Pirates of Tabasco Bay, Fantagraphics. Fantagraphics has been doing a great job collecting and restoring the terrific Disney comics of the 1930s and ’40s, and this collection of work by Paul Murry is no exception.

Belzebubs, Top Shelf. J.P. Ahonen’s comic-strip cross between For Better or For Worse and This Is Spinal Tap is a delightful surprise — warm, occasionally cute and laugh-out-loud funny.

The Avengers Omnibus Vol. 4, Marvel. The Kree-Skrull War and the Avengers-Defenders War, in a single volume! Classic Bronze Age greatness!

Captain America Epic Collection: The Superia Stratagem, Marvel. Cap versus an army of female super-villains! Marvel continues to collect Mark Gruenwald’s landmark Captain America run here.
