Batman #50, DC. It’s the Wedding of the Bat-Century – or is it?* Writer Tom King has been building to this since he took over the book with Rebirth. Along the way, he’s collaborated with some outstanding artists — and the gang’s all here, and then some: Mikel Janin and colorist June Chung lead the festivities but there are about two dozen other artists involved, including Joelle Jones, Clay Mann, Jason Fabok, Mitch Gerads, Lee Weeks and David Finch, not to mention Neal Adams, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Frank Miller, Greg Capullo and Tim Sale. (And that’s still only about half of them.)

Catwoman #1, DC. Make sure to pick this up too. Joelle Jones, who turned in some great art on Batman, takes the full reins on Selina’s new book, which picks up right after Batman #50. So read this second.

Captain America #1, Marvel. Jeez, this really is a huge week for comics. The biggest of the year so far, probably. Ta-Nehisi Coates takes over as writer (click here for his column about it in The Atlantic), with Leinil Francis Yu, Gerry Alanguilan and Sunny Gho on art. This is one of Marvel’s biggest launches of 2018.

Man of Steel #6, DC. Brian Michael Bendis wraps the 6-issue(-plus) intro to his Superman. The Man of Steel takes on Rogol Zaar once more in this climax, with art by Jason Fabok and Alex Sinclair.

Justice League #3, DC. I like that Lex is a full-on villain again. Long overdue. And now we get to see what this Ultraviolet Lantern business is all about. By Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez and crew.

The Immortal Hulk #2, Marvel. One of the best-received of the Fresh Start do-overs. By Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy Jose and Paul Mounts.

Project Superpowers #0, Dynamite. All in color for a dime! Dynamite returns to the well of public-domain heroes, with a new series featuring the hero formerly known as the Golden Age Daredevil, the Green Lama, Masquerade – and my personal fave, the Black Terror, among others. By Rob Williams and Sergio Davila.

True Believers, Marvel. Marvel turns its dollar-reprint line to the Fantastic Four in anticipation of the First Family’s return in August. These two include material from the epic Fantastic Four #48 and Fantastic Four Annual #3.

Star Trek: New Visions #22, IDW Publishing. John Byrne’s Trek photo-comics are like nothing else on the market, and this one, featuring the return of super-obscure intended spinoff Gary Seven, is a real treat. Check it out.

Wonder Woman by John Byrne Vol. 2 HC, DC Comics. Speaking of John Byrne, I’ve always thought his 1990s Wonder Woman run was one of his more underrated stints at DC. There’s good stuff here, worth checking out.
