HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

We pick the comics we’re most looking forward to this week …

No Scott this week, cuz he’s been in San Diego. So here I go by my lonesome! — Dan:

Black Hammer #11, Dark Horse. Fresh off their Eisner win over the weekend, Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston are back with another issue of their moving deconstruction of the Golden and Silver ages, this one focusing on Martian Manhunter Barbalien.

All-Star Batman #12, DC. I’ve dug the Alfred-centric The First Ally storyline. Prime Scott Snyder here. Plus a whole team of artists, including Rafael Albuquerque and Sebastian Fiumara.

Batgirl #13, DC. As I said here, I’m interested anytime Batgirl and Catwoman get together. It never happens enough. By Hope Larson and Inaki Miranda. (By the way, if you’ve never read it, you should track down the trade paperback Batman: The Cat and the Bat, by Fabian Nicieza and Kevin Maguire. Or if you can’t find it for cheap, hunt for Batman Confidential #17-21. Terrific story.)

Doom Patrol #7, DC/Young Animal. Mike Allred is the guest artist on this one, which means it zips right up the reading list. I expect lots of groovy retro references and epic weirdness. I mean, hey, right on the cover we’ve got the Sea of Holes. By Gerard Way and Nick Derington’s in the house too. It’s all in the mind…

Die Kitty Die: Summer Vacation Special #1, Chapterhouse. As long as Dan Parent and Fernando Ruiz keep producing this wicked satire of Archie Comics (and the comics industry in general), I’ll keep buying it.

Batman ’66 Shakespeare Bust Bank, Diamond Select. As if you needed a reminder that it’s finally out this week. Click here for our complete review.
