HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to this week …

Scott Tipton, co-owner, Blastoff Comics, North Hollywood, Calif.

Big Trouble In Mother Russia Illustrated Novel, Boom! This original hardcover based on the John Carpenter cult classic features spot illustrations by my Angel and Doctor Who collaborator Elena Casagrande. Written by Matthew J. Elliot.

DC TV Arrow/Flash action figure 2-pack, DC Collectibles. I had been doing a pretty good job of avoiding the action figures based on the CW shows, but after Invasion!, they’re getting my money.

Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Great Responsibility TPB, Marvel. Maybe the greatest Silver Age Spidey tale of all, Lee and Ditko’s Master Planner Saga, can be found here. (I also pick this. — Dan)

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Black Hammer #6, Dark Horse. Madame Dragonfly gets the spotlight in Jeff Lemire, Dean Ormston and Dave Stewart’s bucolic deconstruction of Golden and Silver Age superhero archetypes. It’s like Watchmen in a small town. Only not.

Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye #3, DC. This has been a genuinely interesting revamp of a pretty obscure DC character, by Gerard Way, Jon Rivera, Michael Avon Oeming and Nick Filardi. I picked this up for the Oeming art and stayed for the weird and kind of goofy story from the Young Animal imprint.

Superman #13, DC. For months, my to-do list has included a column on how great Rebirth Superman is. I keep getting waylaid, so these Hot Picks will still have to do. Peter Tomasi and Pat Gleason have been right on it. Art this time is by Doug Moench and Jaime Mendoza.

Silver Surfer #8, Marvel. Still the best comic produced by Marvel. By Dan Slott and the Allreds. But you knew that.

Author: Dan Greenfield
