Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to this week …
—
Scott Tipton, co-owner, Blastoff Comics, North Hollywood, Calif.
MASK: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand #1, IDW Publishing. I honestly have no idea what to expect from this, but covers by Tommy Lee Edwards are a really good start. By Brandon Easton and Tony Vargas.
—
Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Heroes For Hire Vol. 1 TPB, Marvel. I always thought this ’90s relaunch of Heroes for Hire was sorely overlooked.
—
Sensational She-Hulk by John Byrne: The Return TPB, Marvel. John Byrne’s second and even more outrageous She-Hulk run, finally collected in trade. With an appearance by Razorback! (Look him up, kids.)
—
X-Men/Alpha Flight TPB, Marvel. Speaking of Mr. Byrne, this collection of his X-Men/Alpha Flight run-ins is another can’t-miss offering.
—
Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension
Batman Annual #1, DC. An anthology of icy winter Bat-tales by the likes of — get a load of this list — Neal Adams, Paul Dini, Ray Fawkes, Scott Snyder, Steve Orlando, Tom King, David Finch, Declan Shalvey, Jordie Bellaire, Bilquis Evely, Riley Rossmo and others. Pour the Batnog! (Click here for an EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW.)
—
New Talent Showcase #1, DC. Some of the industry’s top up-and-comers (and already-heres) are included in this anthology. This type of thing can be hit or miss, but just check out some of the names whose work appeared in the ’80s version of this title: Tom Mandrake, Geof Isherwood, Karen Berger, Steve Lightle, Mindy Newell and Norm Breyfogle. This year’s edition features a lot of folks who have already begun making their marks in the industry, including Sonny Liew, Joelle Jones, Siya Oum, Michael Moreci, Christopher Sebela, David Messina and already-a-big-star Emanuela Lupacchino (plus many more). Oh, and that cover is by some undiscovered talent named Klaus Janson.
—
Old Man Logan #14, Marvel. If they keep making it, I’ll keep picking it. By Jeff Lemire, Filipe Andrade and Jordie Bellaire. Regular series artist Andrea Sorrentino provided the rad cover. (Check out the preview here.)
—
Batman: A Celebration of the Classic TV Series, Titan Books. This instant coffee-table Bat-Bible by Bob Garcia and Joe Desris is out this week. We’ve covered it in depth. Click here and here and check out this video:
