Get Ready for a Groovy Spotlight on SUPERMAN’s Earliest Cartoons

From Fleischer to Filmation…

Look, I dig Superman: The Animated Series — more on that soon, actually — but I freely admit I’m in the tank for the Man of Steel as he was presented by the Fleischer brothers in the ’40s and Filmation in the ’60s.

The original, theatrical Superman cartoons are sublimely beautiful and the Saturday morning New Adventures of Superman episodes — later seen in syndication — are a wonderful exercise in Silver Age kitsch.

Anyway, if you feel like I do, you’re in luck: The world’s greatest pop-culture mag, RetroFan, will be featuring a history of these series in an issue expected next year.

Dig the official description:

RETROFAN #25 – March 2023 – 84 FULL-COLOR pages

Meet Mission: Impossible’s Lynda Day George in an exclusive interview! And celebrate Rambo’s 50th birthday with his creator, novelist David Morrell! Plus: TV faves WKRP in Cincinnati and Space: 1999, Fleisher’s and Filmation’s Superman cartoons, commercial jingles, Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope comic books, and more fun, fab features! Featuring columns by Andy Mangels, Will Murray, Scott Saavedra, Scott Shaw, and Mark Voger! Edited by Michael Eury.

A couple thoughts:

RetroFan #25 is due to be released Feb. 8, 2023. It will be available at comics shops and magazine sellers but can already be pre-ordered directly from TwoMorrows. Click here.
