GEORGE REEVES’ SUPERMAN to Be Spotlighted in RETROFAN Magazine

SNEAK PEEK: Still fighting the never-ending battle…

After decades more or less ignoring it, I’ve been binge-watching George Reeves’ The Adventures of Superman and man do I love it, much more than I expected.

I remember the show from when it was in syndication as a kid, but at the time it paled next to the Adam West Batman show, so my course was forever set for Gotham instead of Metropolis.

But boy is Superman a kick. You get drama, noir, cool action, silliness and sly humor. And that Jack Larson? Man, he’s the most underrated part of the show.

Anyway, I was tickled as all get out to see that the classic show will be featured in September’s RetroFan #11, published by TwoMorrows and edited by Michael Eury.

Dig the official description:

October 2020 – 84 FULL-COLOR pages

Just in time for Halloween, RetroFan #11 features interviews with Dark Shadows’ Quentin Collins, David Selby, and the niece of movie Frankenstein Glenn Strange, Julie Ann Reams. Plus: Kolchak the Night Stalker, Rod Serling retrospective, Casper the Friendly Ghost, TV’s Adventures of Superman, Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, Quisp and Quake cereals, Saturday morning cartoon preview specials, scratch model customs, and more fun, fab features! Featuring columns by Ernest Farino, Andy Mangels, Will Murray, Scott Saavedra, and Scott Shaw! Edited by Michael Eury.

A couple thoughts:

— Speaking of Jack Larson, there’s also an article on comics’ Jimmy Olsen. Meanwhile, this Halloween-themed issue is headlined by an interview with Dark Shadows’ David Selby. There’s also a feature on cult-favorite Kolchak: The Night Stalker to look forward to.

— The $9.95 issue is due to ship Sept. 23, give or take a week. It will be available at comics shops but you can already pre-order it directly through TwoMorrows. (Click here.)

  1. This is good news. I also always loved The Adventures of Superman, always watched it as a kid and to this day whenever I hear the opening intro I flash back to childhood. For me season one was the best.

  2. Love Retro Fan, and it has nothing to do with having written for it in the past. It’s a wonderful magazine. I’m binging Dark Shadows right now, so I’m very excited to hear from David Selby.

I grew up on The Adventures of Superman, and still enjoy it a lot today. Such a great, charming cast. If I think of the Daily Planet staff, they are really THE version of it in my mind, despite Chris Reeve being MY Superman.

  3. This looks to be a chill-tastic issue! Quentin! Kolchak! Rod Serling! George Reeves! September can’t get here soon enough! And perhaps, by that time, Covid-19 will be in the rear-view mirror or close to it! <= I'm cleverly dating this comment!
