GEORGE PEREZ’s WONDER WOMAN #1 Facsimile Edition Rescheduled for Summer

EXCLUSIVE: The reprint was delayed — but now has a new date…

Back in February, we brought you the news that DC was planning a Wonder Woman #1 Facsimile Edition, re-presenting George Perez’s landmark 1987 issue — ads and all.

Then the coronavirus pandemic hit and comics’ scheduling was thrown into disarray. Though much is still in the air, things are starting to settle some and now the issue has been set for an August 4 release, according to DC’s new solicitations, out Friday.

Check out the official info:

A few thoughts:

— I spoke to George Perez about his run last year. Click here for what he had to say. The headline? How GEORGE PEREZ Saved WONDER WOMAN From Becoming a ‘Raunchy Sex Object.’

Standard Price Comparison: An unslabbed, NM+ copy of an original recently sold on eBay for $49.99. The Facsimile Edition is $3.99, with all the ads and whatnot.

— This is the only Facsimile Edition listed for August and there are no Dollar Comics scheduled either. (The new $1.99 DC Classics line — reprinting The Batman Adventures, based on Batman: The Animated Series — is represented.) Since there’s still so much shuffling, we’ll have to see what the September solicitations bring next month.

— Why August? Well the movie Wonder Woman 1984 is due August 14 — but who’s to say if that release date will hold? (DC is also planning WW84 variant covers that month, FYI.)

  1. I sure looked forward to the months’ new issues in the ‘80s. Little did we realize how much darkness and non-fun they would become in the years to follow. This is definitely one to pick up.
