Step back into the Gotham of Tim Burton’s seminal classic Batman movies! Batman ’89 brings in screenwriter Sam Hamm (Batman, Batman Returns) and artist Joe Quinones (Dial H for Hero) to pull on a number of threads left dangling by the prolific director. Gotham becomes torn in two as citizens dressed as Batman and The Joker duke it out in the streets. As D.A. Harvey Dent tries to keep the city together, he targets the one problem tearing it apart: BATMAN! And he’ll get Bruce Wayne’s help in taking down the Dark Knight!
A few thoughts:
— Here’s the main cover by Joe Quinones, which is basically the same as the book’s promo image released earlier this year.
— Ordway, of course, illustrated the beloved Batman ’89 film adaptation.
— Groovy to see Billy Dee Williams’ Two-Face in an official capacity, isn’t it?
— There are two other variants still to come, as you see above, though they are not available yet.
— Issue #1 comes out Aug. 10. In addition, the book has a new schedule: Instead of digital-first, the title will come out monthly with digital and print on the same day. The hardcovers are due mid-2022: July 5 for Batman ’89 and July 19 for Superman ’78.
