EAST COAST COMICON is a Bronze Age Bonanza

The show you need to get to…

The 2019 East Coast Comicon is almost here – May 17-19 at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, N.J. — just across the Hudson River from New York City.

Now, why am I mentioning this? Because if you live anywhere in the Northeast (or hell, even in the Mid-Atlantic states — or, hell, anywhere), this is a show tailor-made for readers of 13th Dimension – with a particular focus on actual comic books, especially the creators of the Bronze and Silver Ages.

Who’s on tap this year? Just check out this partial list of attendees – George Perez, making one of his final convention appearances; Marv Wolfman; Jim Starlin; Denny O’Neil; Keith Giffen; John Ostrander; Joe Giella; Joe Sinnott; Howard Chaykin; Larry Lieber; Al Milgrom; Michael Golden; Don McGregor; Ann Nocenti; Jan Duursema; Ron Lim; Ron Wilson; Tom Mandrake; Simon Bisley; Rudy Nebres; Brett Breeding; Paris Cullins; Timothy Truman; and many more.

Denny O’Neil’s Batman #251. Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s The New Teen Titans #1; Jim Starlin’s The Avengers Annual #7.

Not just that, some of today’s top creators will be there too, such as Yanick Paquette and Michael Cho. There will also be indie superstars like Denis Kitchen, Peter Bagge and Drew Friedman; media guests; and a full line-up of programming, including a big cosplay contest.

East Coast Comicon holds a special place in my heart: I helped promoter Cliff Galbraith get the show started years ago as he and I launched 13th Dimension and though we’re no longer in business together, we remain dear friends. (Full disclosure: I make not a single penny off this.)

It’s the kind of show that perfectly balances the best parts of a classic comics convention with modern sensibilities – it’s clean, bright and inviting without being overwhelming and unmanageable.

Anyway, I hope to see you there – because I can tell you it’s well worth the visit.
