Dig This Groovy Retro SPIDER-MAN Cover Coming in April

A neat throwback by Daniel Acuna, featuring Spidey, the Lizard — and MAN-THING…

Marvel in 2021 is celebrating 50 years of Man-Thing, which is kind of cool when you consider the muck monster is hardly a marquee name. Cult fave, yes. Superstar, no.

Anyway, the focal point is a series of three interconnected one-shots, starting with March’s Avengers: Curse of the Man-Thing #1, by Steve Orlando and Francesco Mobili.

Next up, in April, is Spider-Man: Curse of the Man-Thing #1, by Orlando and Alberto Foche, announced this week by the House of Ideas. It all sounds pretty groovy but what really caught my attention was Daniel Acuna’s far out cover to the second issue.

Dig this:

Why do I love this? The reasons are obvious:

You got your John Romita Spidey crossed with your Steve Ditko Spidey; your classic-looking Lizard (the best kind); and it’s all done up like a cover from the short-lived 1968 Spectacular Spider-Man magazine — or a Silver/Bronze Age Marvel paperback:

Painted by Harry Rosenbaum from a Romita layout.

Bob Larkin

Right on.
