A holiday treat.

Every day for 12 days, Funko is putting out a special item — and one of them is a gold 1966 Batmobile variant with a red-and-blue Batman figure.

This is now the fifth Batmobile that Funko has released this year for its 3.75-inch action-figure line: There’s been the original black model, which comes with standard Batman and Robin figures, and blue, red and silver variants, which come with multicolored versions of the Caped Crusader. (Click here for more info.)

The gold Batmobile, which is limited to 1,500 units, retails for $50 and you can only get it through the online Funko Shop. Click here. Be patient, though. Funko’s 12 Days of Christmas Event is a bona fide Thing and there’s a very long wait time.

Anyway, I know the multicolored Batmobiles are not for everybody but I’m a big fan of these. They’re inspired by the Japanese tin toys of yesteryear so they scratch a very distinct kind of Bat-itch. They are, as the company’s name implies, fun.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “This is cool, Dan, but what about Wave 2? When will we find out what’s in it?”

The answer is: Not yet. I know there’s been some concern out there in Batland but plans change all the time in the world of merchandising. I personally wouldn’t get hung up about it until Toy Fair rolls around in February, which is not that far off.

In the meantime, dig the Christmas gold…

  1. No, not my cup of tea but I hope they sell through. More business for Funko means more life for the rest of the line.

I just want to know if Funko would sculpt a new body for an Eartha Kitt Catwoman or if they’d leverage the Julie Newmar buck they already have. I’d be disappointed in the latter since Newmar’s 5′ 11″ and Kitt was 5′ 4″

I’m definitely looking forward to a Bat-Toy Fair next February.

  3. it looks pretty cool but honestly i’m getting tired of these different colored batmobiles. i know a lot of other people like them (and i actually wanted the chrome one at one point) but honestly some of them are, in my eyes, ugly.

in my opinion, if you want to make a toy that was inspired by an older toy, either make it a reproduction of that toy or at least make it stylized like it, using the same materials as the original. if you take a newer toy and make it with colors of an older toy, it doesn’t have that same effect, but of course this is just my opinion.

but anyways… i cannot wait for wave 2! i’m really looking forward to it, though if they do have chase figures in this wave (which i assume they will) i hope i don’t have to go through the same crap i went through to get my chase batman and mr freeze (i checked every single toys r us, bam!, and fye in the area and no chase figures, found the batman at a comic shop but they knew it was a chase figure and it was $35, ended up getting both batman and freeze as an early birthday gift from my dad (i also got the regular batmobile as well), and that officially completed the wave for me, minus the variant batmobiles). i bet i will probably go through that same experience again (of course picking up the regular ones along the way) but still the search would be fun.

(btw i apologize that this is looong)
