BINGO LOVE: The Soundtrack

The Supremes! Barry White! Earth, Wind and Fire! The Staples Singers! It’s all music to our ears…

One of this month’s most acclaimed graphic-novel releases is Bingo Love, by Tee Franklin, Jenn St-Onge and Joy San, now available from Image at comics shops and bookstores. It tells the story of two grandmothers who break boundaries with their star-crossed love. (Click here for more info. You really want to check it out.)

The story takes place over decades and Franklin has put together an outstanding list of 13 songs that can accompany your reading experience. (Franklin’s just the latest to do this here at 13th Dimension. Check out similarly great lists by the likes of Mike Allred, Johnnie Christmas, Dan Parent, Koren Shadmi, John Arcudi and Mick Gray.)

Now, here’s Tee, with a spectacular selection:

By TEE FRANKLIN

Listening to R&B music from the ’60s to ’80s helped me get into the right frame of mind for creating Bingo Love. This is the type of music I listen to on a regular basis in my home as I miss these classics. I wish music was still like this, but until it gets back to these type of love songs, I’ll be blasting all these classics.

Outstanding – The Gap Band

Best of My Love – The Emotions

September – Earth, Wind and Fire

She’s a Bad Mama Jama – Carl Carlton

Let’s Stay Together – Al Green

Let’s Do It Again – Staples Singers

I Wanna Get Next to You – Rose Royce

Have You Seen Her – The Chi-Lites

(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want to Be Right – Luther Ingram

Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe – Barry White

Someday We’ll Be Together – The Supremes

You’re All I Need to Get By – Marvin Gaye with Tammi Terrell

My Girl – The Temptations

Bingo Love is out now.

  1. I just ordered Bingo Love for my pull box. Regarding the music. For years I thought Stevie Wonder sang She’s a Bad Mama Jama & was surprised to find out it was Carl Carlton. I like Diana Ross’ solo work vs. her work with The Supremes, but “Someday We’ll Be Together” by The Supremes is the 1 exception. I love that song. Thanks for posting.
