13 HUMAN TORCH COVERS to Fire You Up

A flaming selection that’ll get you into a heated frenzy! By Kirby, Byrne, Romita and MORE…

Marvel Comics is kicking off a six-part anthology series this week — Marvel — by Alex Ross and a cast of thousands. It’s basically a series that’s closer in vision to what Ross had in mind when he and Kurt Busiek launched the acclaimed Marvels miniseries back in the ’90s.

In this new series, Ross and collaborator Steve Darnall provide a framing sequence for two stories — a Spider-Man tale by Frank Espinosa and an Avengers adventure by Busiek and Steve Rude. (There’s also a secondary limited series coming up called Marvels Snapshots. Click here for more on that.)

The cover, meanwhile, is a riff on 1939’s Marvel Comics #1:

So I see that cover and I says to myself, I says: “I’ve never done 13 COVERS starring the Human Torch.”

And so here are 13 HUMAN TORCH COVERS TO FIRE YOU UP.

Even though the inspiration is a combination of the Golden Age and the Modern Age, this selection is strictly Silver and Bronze ages.

Because hey, why not!

  1. Paste Pot Pete was one of my favorite villains…names. I’d open a story with him in it and was stuck to it like glue until I couldn’t stick around any longer.
