A birthday salute to Wonder Woman’s first artist…
The late H.G. Peter — born 141 years ago on March 8, 1880 (!) — was the first artist to draw Wonder Woman, an illustrator with a distinctive, often oddball style that’s easy to pick out from his Golden Age compatriots.
He also happened to be one of the oldest creators of the Golden Age — he was 61 when William Moulton Marston’s Amazing Amazon debuted in the fall of 1941, in the back of All-Star Comics #8.
Wonder Woman wasn’t on the cover of that issue, but it wouldn’t be long before she headlined two titles — Sensation Comics and her eponymously named series.

Wow. That is interesting to read about him. 1880!
So much had changed in that time by 1940. Automobiles, widespread electricity, motion pictures , radio, sound recordings, skyscrapers.
Is there anything written about if he said he had a model or influence for Wonder Woman?
We can speculate for fun. These stick out to me who could have for sure. Strong features , recognizable at the time, beautiful.
Jane Russell, Hedy Lamarr, Joan Bennett, Vivian Leigh, Dorothy Lamour, just to name a few from the 30s-1940 who may be an influence.
Thanks for celebrating his work and honoring him. It will stay with me when i read the Winder Woman Chronicles again.
