13 COVERS: Spotlight on SUPERMAN in the Silver Age

Because its George Reeves’ birthday…

The 105th anniversary of George Reeves’ birth — the actor was born Jan. 5, 1914 — got me thinking about the Superman comics of the Silver Age, the ones kids naturally grabbed after they were finished watching TV’s Man of Steel save the day.

Sure, the show first ran just as the Silver Age was taking flight (sorry), but it had such a robust afterlife in syndication, that I tend to equate The Adventures of Superman as much with the ’60s (and early ’70s, for that matter) as I do with the ’50s.
