13 COVERS: ROBIN in the SILVER AGE

Robin goes prime time.

Even if the Silver Age started in 1956, it didn’t really hit Gotham until 1964, when Julius Schwartz and Carmine Infantino developed Batman’s “New Look.”

Still, if I’m going to do 13 COVERS for Robin in the Silver Age, I have to include at least a couple from that regrettable, alien-infested era before the revamp.

This is also the period where Robin leaped much further into the public consciousness than ever before, thanks to Burt Ward’s portrayal on the 1966 TV show. (You can read 13 QUICK THOUGHTS about that here.)

Some of the earliest seeds of Dick Grayson’s growth were sown during this time, too, with the introduction of the Teen Titans — the team that decades after its birth provided the catalyst for substantial changes to the Boy Wonder myth.

But we’ll get to that later in ROBIN WEEK, I want to enjoy one of my favorite periods in Robin lore, the Silver Age.

(My standard caveat: This is a subjective list and not a ranking of any kind. This is pretty much what I dig and you may feel very differently. So, rather than beef about a cover you don’t see, instead join in the fun and share your own choices in the comments section or in whatever social-media thread you saw this.)
